Helen Ord

Helen Ann Ord, age 75, of Kingwood, WV, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Piedmont, WV on March 18, 1939 to the late Charles H. and Helen (Shultz) Ord.

As a child, Helen attended St. Peters Catholic School in Keyser, WV. After a family move to Arthurdale, WV in 1950, she attended school in Arthurdale and graduated from Masontown/Valley High in 1957. While in high school, Helen served as Buckwheat Festival Princess.

Helen was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Kingwood, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, receiving the Golden Circle Award for 50 years of membership. She was an active member of her community, donating countless hours of volunteer time to various local organizations.

After many years of service, Helen retired from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in 1995. She then spent time providing wonderful childcare to her, "Special Kids." She enjoyed reading, traveling, vacationing, and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by her siblings, Charles H. Ord, Jr. and Phyllis Ord of Westover, Eleanor Ord Wetzel and Drew Wetzel of Selinsgrove, PA, James Ord and Sue Ord of Wallingford, CT, Jeanne Ord Lawson and Alan Lawson of Dublin, GA, Robert Ord and Nancy Ord of Reedsville, WV, Deborah Ord Unger of Frederick, MD, Patricia Ord of Reedsville, WV, Rebecca Ord Welton and Bill Welton of Reedsville, WV, Elizabeth Ord Cappas and Paul Cappas of Morgantown, WV, and her adopted family, Fred and Jane Koch of Morgantown, WV. In addition to her parents, her younger brother, John E. Ord, preceded Helen in death.

Helen is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Cassandra Ord, Chad Ord, Drew M. Wetzel, Eric Wetzel, Jeanne Wetzel Alouise , Todd Ord, Keith Ord, Kimberly Ord Pepice, David Lawson, Emily Lawson, Daniel Lawson, Kevin Taylor, Travis Ord, Kristin Ord, Jennifer Unger, Adrian Unger Taylor, Gretchen Unger Paschalides, Abbey Cappas Carney, Lucas Cappas, Rebecca Welton, and Ross Koch.
Her great nieces and nephews include Darian, Emily, Lucas, Zachary, Haleigh, Mackenzie, Kylie, Mason, Will, Sam, Hobie, Hayes, Hardy, Savannah, Carter, Kendall, Jackson, Ellie, Wilson, Anna, Noah, Gabriel, Katie, Clark, and Julia.

Family and friends will be received at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Kingwood at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Andrew M. Switzer as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at the Arthurdale Cemetery.
