Robert Eugene Rodeheaver

Robert Eugene Rodeheaver, 89, of Reedsville, formerly of Morgantown, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown with loving family by his side.
He was born on September 12, 1926 in Morgantown, a son of the late Jerry Lee and Goldie Lena (Shifflett) Rodeheaver.
Robert served aboard the destroyer escort USS Rall in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He survived five attacks by Japanese Kamikaze; four were shot down and the fifth crashed into the Rall causing heavy damage, killing twenty-one and wounding thirty-one, off Ie Shima, near Okinawa. He was awarded the Navy Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with four battle stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Robert worked at the Morgan Shirt Factory before entering the Navy, after for Guttman Oil for eight years and Texaco for thirty-three years.
He was a member of the VFW Colonel Rowan Post # 2345 in Tunnelton.
Survivors include his wife, Melva Eileen (Strawser) Rodeheaver; son, Robert Rodeheaver, Jr., of Clarksburg; three daughters: Linda Hanlin and Robert, of Valley Point; Betty Gatian and Charles, of Bruceton Mills; and Sandra Armstrong and Mark, of Reedsville; six grandchildren: Andrew Hanlin, Lea Belanger, Shea Stackpole, Sheryl Gunno, Evan Gatian and Kimberly Wolfe; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, three brothers preceded Robert in death: Jack, Marvin, and Carl Rodeheaver; and one sister, Betty Lane.
Private services with military honors at the Morgan Funeral Home in Reedsville. Interment, Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown.
