Roberta Lynn Deahl, 54, of Peterstown, WV formerly of Woodbridge, VA passed away Sunday morning January 27, 2019 at Springfield Center in Lindside, WV. Born January 18, 1965 in Morgantown, WV she is the daughter of Mary Alice (Molisee) Deahl and the late Paul Justus Deahl. Roberta graduated from Independent Hill School in Manassas, VA in 1987. Roberta worked at Sears from 1988 to 1993, at J.C.Penny from 1993 to 1998. She was active in the Special Olympics and won numerous gold medals over the years in both gymnastics and track and field. The pinnacle of Roberta's Special Olympics career occurred in 1987, at a national meet in South Bend, IN. She was awarded a gold medal in gymnastics by Olympic US gold medal winner Mary Lou Retton. Roberta was an avid bowler with an average score of 120+. She was also a member of the Girl Scouts for many years and often was awarded for selling the most cookies in her troop. Roberta was a faithful member of the Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Dumfries, VA and found great joy in serving as an usher, a greeter, and an acolyte. Roberta never met a stranger and touched the lives of everyone she met.
In addition to her father she was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Frank and Nettie Molisee; paternal grandparents Justus and Wilma Deahl; special friend Jerry Johnson; sister in law Betty June (Warren) Molisee, two uncles James and Richard Molisee
Roberta is survived by her mother Mary Alice Deahl, brother Paul and wife Cheryl of Peterstown, nieces Samantha of Woodbridge, VA and Nickie of Arlington, VA, three aunts Rosa Lee Poling of Masontown, WV, Laura Menear of Vienna, WV and Lois Shaffer of Rowlesburg, WV and several cousins.
Friends may call at the Morgan Funeral Home in Reedsville on Wednesday January 30, 2019 from 11 – 2:00 pm the time of the Funeral Services with Dennis Menear officiating.
Interment will follow at Camp Ground Cemetery, Tunnelton, WV.
