RICH CATHELL
GREEN VALLEY a€" Richard G. "Rich" Cathell, 86, of Chesapeake, VA, and Green Valley, WV, died Wednesday August 5, 2015, in the family home in Green Valley near Rowlesburg.
Born in Green Valley, he was the son of Charles and Mae (Gaines) Cathell. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Harold, Gerald "Pete," and six sisters, an infant Mary Cathell, "Gus" Cato Brown, Violet Carver, Dolly Bolyard Dutton, Ruth Hovatter and Betty Sohn.
Mr. Cathell, was retired with 21 years of service as a Navy Chief Corpsman in the U.S. Navy and 20 years of service with the Virginia State Health Dept. He was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Portsmouth, VA. A U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam War.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Helen (Witt) Cathell; one son, David R. Cathell and wife Donna of Portsmouth, VA; one daughter, V. Kathleen "Kathy" Timothy and husband Michael of Virginia Beach, VA; four grandchildren, Cheri (Cathell) Lowder and husband Brad of Chesapeake, VA, Mindy (Cathell) Eddy and husband Jason of Portsmouth, VA, Casey (Timothy) Wykle and husband Charlie of Chesapeake, VA, Kori Timothy of Virginia Beach, VA; four great-grandchildren, Zephaniah Eddy, Leah Eddy, Jaxson Lowder Morgan Wykle, and extended family, Ann and husband Edward Phillips, Ryan Phillips, Sara Thomas, Katie Vaughn and their respective families.
Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, Chesapeake, VA. Funeral services were Friday, August 21 with Pastor Aaron Fuller officiating. Morgan Funeral Home was honored to handle local arrangements for the Cathell family.
