Claxton Eugene Powell, of Masontown, WV, passed away at Kingwood Healthcare on January 7, 2025. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leona (Hillery) Thomas. Claxton was born in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, to the late Hattie Bell and James Powell.
He is survived by his step-children: Earl Kelly, Eugene Thomas, Ricky Thomas, Carolyn Ziegler, Brenda Thomas, and Lisa Shaffer, as well as his sister, Judy Maring, and ; many-many cherished grandchildren.
Claxton was preceded in death by his step-sons: Herbert Thomas and Michael Thomas; his siblings: Pauline, James, Marie, Maimmie, Donald, Sarah (Becky), Jimmy, and Sue; and grandson, Jason Thomas.
A skilled craftsman, Claxton worked as tile setter, eventually earning the prestigious title of Master Tiles-Man. His work graced fine homes in Morgantown, penthouse suites, the Orlando Airport, and even Walt Disney World. Claxton took great pride in his craft, and it was a source of immense fulfillment throughout his life. Beyond his work, he had a love for playing the guitar and cherished the time spent with his beloved family. Claxton will be fondly remembered for his dedication to his craft, his music, and most of all, the love he had for his family.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at Morgan Funeral Home, 13411 Veterans Memorial Highway, Reedsville, WV, 26547, on Monday, January 13, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Marvin Shaffer. Private committal services will be in the Damon cemetery.
