Glenn Rufus Holmes

Glenn Rufus Holmes Jr., 86 of Independence passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 at his residence. He was born June 2, 1926 in Reedsville, son of the late Glenn Rufus Holmes Sr. and Hester Grose Holmes. Surviving is his wife Sue Schneider Holmes whom he married November 17, 1956; three children, Janet H Robinson, Independence, Julie K Davis and husband Greg, Clover, SC, Jeff G Holmes and wife Tabitha, Independence; eight grandchildren, Cori Summers and husband Cody, Ali Robinson, Sarah Robinson, Chelsea Davis, Logan Davis, Elizabeth Holmes, William Holmes and Charles Holmes; one sister, Glenna Swank, Ocala, FL; sister-in-law, Susie Holmes, Reedsville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Paul Holmes. Glenn graduated from Masontown High School in 1944, joined the United States Navy and was part of the V-12 Naval Reserve Officer Training Corp during WWII. He completed his Bachelors in mechanical engineering from West Virginia University. Glenn was a registered professional engineer with thirty seven years of service with Alleghany Power and retired from Fort Martin Power Plant. After retiring, he moved back to the family farm where his life centered around raising cattle and grandchildren. He attended the Community Presbyterian Church in Arthurdale. Family and friends will be received at the Morgan Funeral Home, Reedsville from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 and from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Thursday, July 19, 2012. Mr. Holmes will lie in repose from 10:00 am until time of the service at 11:00 am on Friday, July 20th, 2012 at the Community Presbyterian Church in Arthurdale with Reverend Steven Allman officiating.
