Harold Hugh Gillespie, age 76, of Route 4, Grafton, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012, at United Hospital Center. He was born in Webster Springs, WV, October 1, 1935, a son of the late James Rubin Gillespie and Pearl Jane (Knight) Gillespie. His wife of 52 years, Ruth Ann (Austin) Gillespie survives. They were united in marriage July 11, 1960.
Harold was a 1955 graduate of Grafton High School. He was a veteran having served in the US Army. He worked as a brakeman and was retired with 30 years service from CSX Railroad, he was also employed by the former C & O Railroad and B & O Railroad. He enjoyed the outdoors, and hunting and fishing and was an avid collector of carosel horses and trains. In addition to his wife he is survived by: two daughters, Johnna Beth Exline and husband Robert, of Martinsburg, WV, and Donna Katsan and fiancé Donald Gorbey, of Baxter, WV; four grandsons, Adam R. Exline and Joshua J. Exline, both of Martinsburg, Alex M. Katsan and wife Michelle (Brown) Katsan, of North Pole, Alaska, and James D. Katsan, of Baxter, WV; two brothers, Charles "Dink" Gillespie and wife Mary Alice, and Burnell "Bud" Gillespie, all of Grafton; two sisters, Betty Marshall, and Eileen Moran, both of Grafton, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: one brother, Vincent "Buster" Gillispie, and one sister, Renalda June Gillispie.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Tuesday, August 14th from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 15th, 2012, at the funeral home. Interment at the WV National Cemetery.
Military graveside services will be accorded by the VFW Memorial City Post #3081, American Legion Taylor County Post #12, Central WV DAV Chapter 24, and their auxiliaries, and the WV Army National Honor Guard of Camp Dawson.
