Irene Jean Morgan - Mayfield 92, of Reedsville passed away on Tuesday June 5, 2012 with family by her side at Home Away from Home assisted living in Newburg. She was born May 17, 1920 in Reedsville the only child of Iven Gordon "I.G." and Birdie Olive (Christopher) Morgan.
She was a member of the Reedsville United Methodist Church, WSCS, Twawasi Class, Reedsville Womens Club, Eastern Star, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, and United Methodist Women. She graduated from Masontown High School in 1938, Morgantown Business College in 1939, and studied Music at WVU. She was Maid of Honor in the very first Preston County Buckwheat Festival. She was a clerk for Preston Coal and Coke in the 40's. She was actively involved with the Morgan Funeral Home for over 60 years, helping her father in the beginning and operating it after his death with her husband of fifty years Marvin Mayfield. She loved raising tomatoes, canning vegetables and deer, baking bread, cooking wild turkey, and her grandchildren. Irene Jean never met a stranger.
She is survived by a son Morgan Mayfield of Reedsville; a daughter Jean Kaye (Paul) Yurko; Grandson James Morgan (Amber) Yurko; granddaughter Christina (Richard) Young; grandson James Arthur Young; four great-grandchildren: Gavin Morgan Yurko, Jeda Marie Yurko, Kira Kai Young, Teagan Taite Young all of Lusby, MD; her cousin Marlene (John) Fullmer and her caretakers Janet, Sharon , and Chastity. On Monday June 11, 2012 a reception in the fellowship hall will coincide with Church Visitation of 11 - 1:00 pm.
