John W. "Johnny Bill" Murray, age 70, of Route 1, Lucretia Community, Grafton, was carried home to the Lord on the wings of angels, March 22, 2013,while surrounded by his family. He was born in Grafton, November 2, 1942, a son of the late Ralph E. Murray, who preceded him in death February 27, 2011, and Betty Ann (Isner) Murray, who preceded him in death June 2, 2012. His wife, Roberta Ann "Bobbie" (Runner) Murray, survives. They were united in marriage, November 10, 1967.
Johnny Bill graduated from Grafton High School, class of 1960. He was a US Marine veteran having served in the Vietnam War, where he attained the rank of Sgt. He was retired from Comcast where he worked as a "cable guy". He was a member of the VFW Memorial City Post 3081, Grafton. He was known as "the Mayor" of Lucretia, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He frequented Duckworth's Service Station and Wal-Mart, where he enjoyed talking and joking with his many friends.
In addition to his wife he is survived by: his sister, Betty Conner and husband Timmy, of Grafton; a niece Karla Woods and husband Craig and their children Hunter and Conor, all of Morgantown; a nephew, Micky Conner and wife Cassie and their children Wade and Kolt, of Grafton; a nephew, Christopher Bowman and wife Karen, of Bridgeport; a sister-in-law, Wilma "Billie" Bowman and husband Richard, of Grafton; a brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Runner and his family, of Bridgeport; a brother, James; and a sister Connie; his extended family, Tom and Sherry Johnson and children Lauren, Morgan, and Emma; special friends, Ron and Martha Poling, Darlene Haddix, Dee Dee Duda, Eugene Chipps, Robert Stockett, Bobby Duckworth, David Sevier, Gary Poling, and the whole Lucretia Community.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: one son John William Murray, Jr. on October 6, 1970; one daughter, Johna Ann Murray, on July 20, 1972; and his father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Helen (Gatian) Runner
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 27th, from 6-8 PM, at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton. A celebration of life will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 28th, 2013, at the funeral home, with Pastor Tom Horne officiating. Interment at the WV National Cemetery.
Military graveside services will be accorded by the VFW Memorial City Post #3081, the American Legion Taylor County Post #12, Central WV DAV Chapter 24, and their auxiliaries, and the National Marine Honor Guard.
