Karen Baylor Obituary

Karen Lavonne Baylor passed away peacefully Sunday, December 29, 2024 in Morgantown, West Virginia.  She was born on July 24, 1940 to Nellie Mae (Harvey) Matlick and James Kenneth Matlick. Karen graduated from Felllowsville High School, Class of 1957.

She worked for 33 years for the former Sheidow Bronze Company in Kingwood, West Virginia, until her retirement in 1999.  At that time, she had risen to Controller/Vice President of the company.  Following retirement, she was a real estate agent for Houses and More Realty in Kingwood.

Karen was a devoted Christian and spent many hours in service to the Lord at the Kingwood First Presbyterian Church. She loved to sew and made many beautiful quilts for family and friends. One of her greatest joys was spending time with friends and family. Karen enjoyed having large gatherings at her home and was know as a gracious hostess and excellent cook. She also travelled the world from Europe and Asia to Australia with the love of her life, her husband, Charles.

Karen is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles Ray Baylor; her daughter, Trudy Burge (Ronny) of Morgantown; son Michael Baylor (Susan) of Hagerstown, MD; son Mark Baylor (Robbie) of Kingwood; grandchildren Cambria Baylor (Andy Cooper), Brennan Baylor (Caitlin); Justin Baylor (Gina); Christopher Swecker (Erica); Brian Burge (Rachel); Veronica Vandevander (Jason); Jonathan Baylor; Derek Baylor (Caroline); Robert Baylor (Joanna); Jason Ullman; Ryan Ullman (Danielle); Matthew Ullman (Katina Philburn); Brandon Ullman (Colleen); and Jennifer Newman (Nick);  18 great grandchildren; and her twin sister Karolyn O’Bryon Bartok (Bob) of Vermilion, Ohio.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters: Beulah Ridenour, Helena Ridenour, Beatrice Harshberger and brother James Dale Matlick.

Friends may call on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at the Morgan Funeral Home in Reedsville, from 2 - 5:00 PM, and on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 10 – 11:00AM, the time of Funeral Services with Dr. Reverend Allen Ridenour officiating. Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Kingwood First Presbyterian Church at 104 E. High Street, Kingwood, WV  26537.
