Kenneth A. Carr, 71 of Mt. Zion passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Fairmont General Hospital. He was born, December 1, 1941 the son of the late Beatrice Carr. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Vicki Smith Carr; in addition to his wife he is survived by two sisters, Lula Jackson and Maxine Shepard, both of Fairmont; one brother "Gene" Carr of KY; mother-in-law Doris Smith of Fairmont and in-laws; Tracy and Carolyn Smith of Worthington; Alyce and Richard Greene of Bridgeport, Sherry Smith and Randy Vanpelt of Huttonsville, Kevin Smith of Dayton, OH; Joni Smith of Woofleaf, NC; Shannon Smith and Renee Gore of Fairmont and Shelley and Greg Gordon of Herndon VA. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by; four brothers; Buddy, Sanford, Roger, and Ralph Carr; father-in-law, John R.P. Smith; and brother and sister-in-law, Larry and JoAnn Smith. He was a coal miner of 30 years and retired from Peabody, Federal 2. He also worked at Marinka Mine in Fairmont for 16 years and various mines in Buckhannon and Philippi and Alabama. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, District 31, and a United States veteran having served in the Army from 1960-1963. He was stationed in Germany during the Cold War, and was a Protestant by faith. He was an avid hunter and raised hunting dogs; loved black and white westerns and was a self-acclaimed expert in cowboy movies. He also enjoyed outdoor adventure shows; and loved to cook and was known best for his special-recipe meatballs he made for almost every family event. In honoring Mr. Carr's request he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Dorsey Funeral Home 701 S. Pike Street, Shinnston is in charge of arrangements.
