Leonard F. Myers, age 86, of Route 1, Thornton, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, at Hartland of Clarksburg. He was born in Thornton, August 5, 1926, a son of the late George Wayne Myers, and Alcinda "Elizabeth" (Williams) Myers. His wife, Shirley (Haddix) Myers preceded him in death March 29, 2009. They were united in marriage April 23, 1953.
Leonard was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator, he was a shop foreman for the WV Division of Highways State Road, he also worked at Builders Service and Supply where he retired. He was a Korean War veteran having served in the US Army. He founded the Thornton Volunteer Fire Department in 1968, and was a founding member of the Thornton Pumpkin Festival. He enjoyed fishing. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are: five children, Francis Myers of Tunnelton, Gary and Donna Myers of Grafton, Tim Lee and Karen Myers of Thornton, Ronald Edward Myers, of Kingwood, and Ann Davies, of Grafton; twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by: one daughter, Carolyn Fornash; one son, Leonard "Wayne" Myers; one grandson, Justin Myers; six siblings, Susanna Knotts, Homer Myers in infancy, Mary Freeze, Floyd "Kenneth" Myers, Bertha Myers in infancy, and James "Gab" Myers; seven have siblings, Harry, Leroy, Luther, Robert, Clarence, and Octavia Myers, and Naomi "Mae" Williams; and one daughter in law, Carolyn Lou Myers.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Monday from 4 - 8 PM. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the funeral home with Evangelist Bobby Jennings officiating. Interment will follow at Payne Cemetery.
