Mary Hawker

Mary Hawker, 90 of Shinnston, WV, passed away from an extended illness at Donna Mayle Personal Care Home of Grafton, Monday, January 21, 2013. She was born in Coons Run, WV on June, 9, 1922, the daughter of the late Nick Spano and Rose Folio Spano Allawatt. She was Preceded in death by her husband Zane John Hawker on July, 31, 1986.; Mary is survived by two Godsons, Eric Sturm of Eighty-Four, PA and Dave Sturm and wife Andrea of Shinnston; one sister; Katherine Spenia of Lakeland FL; six nieces Nancy Sturm of Shinnston; Mary Ann Key and husband Bill of Lakeland, Florida; Terrie Cromer and husband Tom of Pittsburgh, PA; Lisa Mackovine and husband Frank of Columbus, OH; Sharon Nicopolis of Warren, OH; Sharron Griffith and husband Lawrence of Shinnston; six nephews; Bob Starkey and wife Sharon of Phoenix, AZ; James and John Starkey, both of Gregory's Run Road; John Spenia of Lakeland, FL; Nick Spano wife Mary of Warren, OH; John Gibson of Elkins, WV; four great great nieces: Victoria, Jaden, Addison, and Kendall Sturm; several great nieces and nephews. One step sister-i- law; Pat Allawatt; She was also preceded in death by one son: Zane Joseph Hawker; one brother: Joe Spano; three sisters Tressa Starkey; Elizabeth Baker; Virginia Carvelli; three step brothers: Dick, Sam, and Arthur Allawatt; five step sisters: Mary Veltri; Francis Rotunda; Teresa, Julia, and Lillian. She was a member of the Shinnston Garden Club, and Mary belonged to the Ruth Mayhall Circle of the First United Methodist Church of Shinnston. Mary loved to spend time with her family and friends, she really enjoyed being around children, she was a homemaker, and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Family and friends will be received at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St. Shinnston, WV 26431 Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 4:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. and from 9:00a.m. - 11:00a.m. The service is Friday January 25, 2013 with Pastor Jeffrey Winter officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Lord's Pantry, PO Box 64; Shinnston, WV 26431.
