Mary Marguerite (Cunningham) Johnson, age 84, of West Main Street, Grafton, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, December 28, 2012, at United Hospital Center. She was born in Terra Alta, Preston County, WV, May 26, 1928, a daughter of the late Frank Cunningham and Lula Ann (Bucklew) Cunningham. Her husband, Brooks Johnson, preceded her in death June 16, 1989. They were united in marriage July 21, 1945.
Mary was an LPN and worked at Grafton City Hospital for 17 years. She later volunteered at Rosewood Nursing Home, she was a volunteer teacher at Grace Brethren Academy. She briefly worked at the law office of LaVerne Sweeney, and worked as an LPN at the former Resthaven Personal Care Home. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and reading. She was a member of the Grafton Baptist Church.
Surviving are: six daughters, Elizabeth Ann Beltner and Roy, Marylou Leighty and husband Gerald, Margaret Ball and husband John, all of Grafton, Darley and husband Robert, of NJ, Phyllis, of Colorado, and Susan and husband Mike, of TX; ten grandchildren, Sharon Beltner Smith, Gerald Leighty II, Christa, Sandra, Sean, Benjamin, Greg, Eric Fulk, David Watkins, and Lisa Miller; and several great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by: one brother, Ira Cunningham; one sister Fleda Grow; and one granddaughter, Amanda Baldwin
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton on Monday December 31st from 3-8 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor Don Harward officiating. Interment at Woodsdale Memorial Park.
