Shirley "Sis" Ann (Smith) Hess

Shirley “Sis” (Smith) Hess, age 88, of Masontown (Bretz Community), passed away on January 9, 2026, at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 27, 1937, a daughter of the late George Smith and Wanita (Ayersman) Smith.

Shirley enjoyed volunteering at Christian Help and the Salvation Army in Morgantown for many years. She loved music.

Shirley is survived by two sons, Darrin Hess, of Albright, and Bradley (Sara) Hess, of Gladesville; two grandsons, Joey Street and Olen Hess; one brother, Dennis (Brenda) Smith; one sister, Dixie Metheny; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Donna Wolfe and Jimmy Hess for helping to take such great care of her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Foster Simon Hess, Sr.; her son, Foster Hess, Jr.; three brothers, Bob Smith, Don Smith, and George Smith; three sisters, Dolores Hess, Ada Chipps, and Rosemary Leone; and one brother-in-law, Robert Hess.

Family and friends may gather for visitation on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Morgan Funeral Home, 13411 Veterans Memorial Highway, Reedsville, WV, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Darrell Stevenson officiating. Interment will take place afterward at Gladesville Cemetery.
