William "Bill" Charles Smith

William “Bill” Charles Smith, age 90, of Gladesville Road passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024 in his home, (Gladesville) Independence, WV. He was born May 13, 1934, in the old home place near Gladesville, a son of the late Jay Isaac and Goldie Ellen (Scritchfield) Smith.

Bill and his late wife, Jane, were married for 71 years and during that time they operated the family farm. While farming, throughout his life, he worked twenty-seven jobs, the longest of which was being an insurance salesman.

He is survived by: two sons: Baron Smith and Byron Smith; 3 daughters: Linda and (Rich) Fassett; Cynthia and (Mike) Dinger; Jaynie and (Carey) Riel, and; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thelma Jane Turner, one brother, Jay Isaac Smith,Jr., and his granddaughter, Kelly Jane Pitzer.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Morgan Funeral Home in Reedsville, from Noon until 2:00 PM, the time of Funeral Services with Mike Logan officiating. Interment will follow in the Gordon Cemetery.
